Hoodia Gordonii – Low Priced and Unreliable

There are thousands of hoodia gordonii supplements available today and the price range is quite astonishing. How can the same substance, hoodia gordonii cost such a lot in some supplements but be so cheap in others? To answer that question, we must first understand hoodia gordonii itself. Hoodia gordonii is a succulent plant that grows wild in the Kalahari Desert of Southern Africa. This is its natural habitat and it has proved very difficult to cultivate. Over-harvesting of the wild hoodia gordonii has led to it becoming an endangered species and it is now protected by CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species). Hoodia gordonii was found to contain an active ingredient, a molecule named P57, which has the effect of suppressing appetite.

The P57 is found only in the inner flesh, the core of the hoodia gordonii plant. The rest of the plant; leaves, roots, stems, etc contain no P57 and therefore have no effect on appetite at all. There are various other Hoodia plants growing all over Africa, but they contain no P57. Only hoodia gordonii does and so only hoodia gordonii will suppress appetite.

The prices for various hoodia gordonii products range from £ 6.55 to £ 12.80 to  £ 29.95 to £ 37.37. Quite a variation! Let’s investigate further. Hoodia products are manufactured in a variety of ways:

1. By using the entire hoodia gordonii plant – since this involves using the ineffective parts of the plant as well, the resulting supplement will be only 60% effective.
2. By using one of the other hoodias that grow all over South Africa. This requires no CITES certificate since they are not endangered, but also, they contain no P57 and are therefore totally ineffective as appetite suppressants.
3. By using other herbs or supplements as “fillers”, for e.g. green tea, caffeine etc. This greatly reduces the amount of hoodia gordonii used and therefore also its effectiveness.
4. By using hoodia gordonii cultivated in Texas and China. hoodia gordonii is extremely difficult to cultivate and grows best in its own natural habitat. So these supplements are not as effective as the South African.
5. By using the powdered form of only 100% real hoodia gordonii core from South Africa in a gelatin capsule. This is the best and most effective form of hoodia gordonii.

Hoodia gordonii has to be imported from South Africa and it needs a CITES certificate to leave the country. So option 5 is going to be expensive to procure and then manufacture. Options 1, 2, 3 and 4 on the other hand are very much cheaper on the manufacturer’s budget, as you can see, but they are not fully effective as appetite suppressants, and in fact, the products using ordinary Hoodia are fakes. So it is obvious that the price of hoodia gordonii is indicative of its quality and authenticity.

Let’s look at UniqueHoodia. For £ 37.37, you are buying pure, fresh and safe South African 100% real hoodia gordonii core powder in gelatin capsules. UniqueHoodia is fully certified and tested by two reputed laboratories. Quality comes at a price, but UniqueHoodia is worth every penny of it.

Hoodia Gordonii: Comparing Prices

There is a lot of disparity in the prices at which hoodia gordonii is selling today.

One hoodia gordonii supplement is selling a month’s supply at £ 6.55 while another is selling at £ 37.37. This difference of over £ 30 for a month’s supply points to the simple conclusion that the £ 6.55 hoodia gordonii supplement is either not genuine or else contains so little hoodia gordonii that it will be practically ineffective. There are many reasons for this. Hoodia gordonii is a rare plant growing wild in the Kalahari Desert of Southern Africa. This is its only natural habitat. Since the time that it was discovered hoodia gordonii contained an active ingredient, a molecule named P57 that could suppress appetite, it has been in great demand worldwide. This led to hoodia gordonii being over-harvested and it is now on the endangered list and can only be exported with a certificate from CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species).

There are other species of Hoodia growing all over Africa, but they contain no P57. Only hoodia gordonii contains P57 and will suppress appetite.

Pure hoodia gordonii is very difficult to cultivate even on its own native soil. It has been taken to Texas and China and is presently being cultivated there as well, but hoodia gordonii has proved to be most effective when grown in its natural environment in Southern Africa. Only the core, the inner flesh of hoodia gordonii contains the appetite-suppressing molecule P57. The rest of the plant; its spiny skin, flowers and roots contain no P57 and hence have no effect on appetite suppression. Now, all these facts about hoodia gordonii show you that to make an effective appetite-suppressing supplement from this plant is going to be expensive.

1. First a certificate from CITES must be obtained and then the hoodia gordonii must be imported from South Africa.
2. Then, only the core of hoodia gordonii containing P57 must be used. The rest of the plant is useless.
3. After that it is necessary to get the product certified and thoroughly tested to prove that it is 100% real  hoodia gordonii.

There are many cheaper ways to manufacture hoodia gordonii supplements.
1. Obtain hoodia gordonii from Texas or China – it will be less effective at suppressing appetite, but it will definitely be cheaper.
2. Use the entire plant – this will make the product only 60% effective, but certainly, it will cost less to manufacture.
Or use just a little hoodia gordonii and fill up the rest of the capsule with green tea, caffeine, etc.
3. Use any of the other Hoodia plants growing all over Africa.
These supplements will not be effective at all, but they will be cheap to manufacture and one can still call them “Hoodia”.
4. Forget the certificates and the tests.

The reason for the difference in prices should be crystal clear to you now. Pure and genuine hoodia gordonii comes at a price. Let’s examine UniqueHoodia retailing for a price of £ 37.37. UniqueHoodia uses the powdered core of 100% real hoodia gordonii in 460mg gelatin capsules. Their hoodia gordonii supplement carries the CITES certificate, an Organics Annex Certificate and a Certificate of Analysis. It has been tested by two reputable laboratories. Certainly, UniqueHoodia is expensive but rest assured that you are paying for the Real Thing.

Hoodia Gordonii Price Comparison

To understand the variation in the price of Hoodia products, it is necessary to understand exactly what Hoodia Gordonii is. Hoodia Gordonii is a rare succulent plant that is found in the Kalahari Desert of Southern Africa. It grows wild in the desert, but has proven notoriously difficult to cultivate. There are many varieties of Hoodia growing all over Africa, but only Hoodia Gordonii has proved to contain P57, an active ingredient that causes loss of appetite. P57 is only found in the inner flesh, the core of Hoodia Gordonii. Its roots, leaves, stems and spiny outer covering contain no P57, and so have no effect on appetite at all. Hoodia gordonii is a rare plant, and having been over harvested, it is now on the endangered list. It can only be exported out of South Africa with a CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) certificate.

With the epidemic of obesity overtaking our world, and the dictates of health and fashion demanding a slim body, this natural appetite suppressant with no side effects has quickly become one of the most sought after supplements. This demand has led to hundreds of companies supplying Hoodia products, not all of which contain pure hoodia gordonii.

Alkemist Pharmaceuticals, a highly respected laboratory tested hundreds of samples of hoodia gordonii that had been willingly sent to them, and declared over 80% of these products fraud. Some of the products had no hoodia gordonii in them at all, but had used one of the other hoodia plants – the other hoodias have no effect on appetite at all.
Other products did use hoodia gordonii, but unfortunately, they used the entire plant – leaves, stems, roots and skin – and this reduced the effectiveness of the remedy by 40%.

Therefore, as you can see hoodia gordonii does come at a price. Firstly, it has to be certified by CITES, and then imported from South Africa. Secondly, it has to be tested by a reputed laboratory that will certify that it is genuine hoodia gordonii. Thirdly, to be fully effective, only the core of the hoodia gordonii can be used in the supplement, the rest of the plant must be discarded as it does not contain P57 and hence has no effect on appetite suppression.

You can see how the expense is building up there. By the time hoodia gordonii is finally packaged and ready to be handed over to the customer, it has already cost the manufacturer a fair amount.

Compare a month’s supply of just 3 Hoodia products:
Hoodia gordonii 400mg sells at £6.55
Extra strength hoodia gordonii 800mg sells at £12.80
UniqueHoodia sells at £37.37

You can see the difference in the price range quite easily here. Ask yourself this question – is it possible for a company to import a rare and endangered plant from South Africa with proper certification, get it thoroughly tested at reputed laboratories, manufacture the capsules, package the product, advertise it and then sell a month’s supply for just £6.55 or even £12.80 ?
Don’t forget the results of Alkemist Pharmaceuticals’ tests – only 20% of the supplements they tested were genuine and up to par.

Take UniqueHoodia now. They sell a month’s supply of Hoodia Gordonii at £37.37

They also show you a CITES certificate, an Organics Annex Certificate, a Certificate of Analysis and their supplements have not only been tested and passed by Alkemist Pharmaceuticals but by CNL (Certified Natural Laboratories) as well.

UniqueHoodia sells supplements that are fresh, safe and pure 100% real hoodia gordonii.

Are they expensive? Maybe. Are they value for money? Most certainly!
