Do you known what the term “extract” really means? An extract is a part of a larger whole. When companies say their product contains Hoodia “extract”, they mean that part of the product is Hoodia and the rest is the other parts of the plant: the leaves, roots, outer skin, stems – all totally ineffective where weight loss is concerned. So, when you take Hoodia extract (if it’s pure hoodia gordonii), the supplement is only 60% effective. You see, only the inner flesh, the core of pure hoodia gordonii contains P57, a molecule that suppresses appetite. The rest of the plant has no P57 and neither do any of the other varieties of hoodia plants that grow all over Africa.
Only hoodia gordonii, a succulent plant that grows solely in the Kalahari Desert in Southern Africa contains the active ingredient, P57 in its inner flesh – so only the core of the pure hoodia gordonii is an effective appetite suppressant.
A hoodia company offering hoodia extract may also use parts of any other hoodia plants, not to mention fillers like caffeine or green tea.
